Codependency
Codependency by Lula B:
In this lenticular print, intimacy and unease collide. A woman presses herself against a looming monster, kissing it tenderly as though bound to it for survival or identity. Her beauty - soft features, blonde hair, blue eyes - stands in stark contrast to the creature’s grotesque form. Yet it is she who clings, while the monster responds only with instinct, incapable of returning affection.
The work becomes a meditation on codependency: the imbalance of need, the desperation of love given but not received, the way we sometimes embrace the very thing that consumes us.
Artistically, the figure is not abstracted but personal. Drawing from her own features, face shape, colouring, even subtle morphing of her likeness, the artist folds herself into the narrative. It is both universal and intimate, a confession disguised as myth.
The lenticular format heightens this duality: as the viewer shifts, the embrace flickers and changes, embodying the unstable, restless energy at the core of such relationships. Beautiful and unsettling in equal measure.
Framed Lenticular. Dimensions - 40cm x 40cm (16×16in) - Square.
